Massage Therapy
Why do we offer massage therapy?
While Massage therapy offers many benefits, we offer it here at our office as it goes hand in hand with Chiropractic care and the other services that we offer.
Chiropractors can work wonders on rebalancing the alignment of the spine as well as relaxing the muscles and restoring normal nerve function. Sometimes however, the body can be so stiff that it tries to resist the Chiropractic adjustments.
Having a professional massage will help to relax any muscle tightness and spasms and help the chiropractor’s correction. Muscles move joints, while ligaments and fascia support them. If an area of spinal stiffness with a lot of tension in the surrounding muscles is adjusted without addressing the soft tissue problem, the tight muscles and shortened fascia can then pull on the spinal joints, making them stiffen up again and the pain may return. Massage is beneficial for anyone but is particularly useful for treating people that are under constant stress physically, as well as mentally.

So what are some of the benefits of massage?
Pain and Stiffness Relief
A full body massage can relieve pain and stiffness due to misalignments, such as neck and lower back pain. Massage sometimes helps to relieve migraine pain as well, but it should be addressed chiropractic-ally first. It is very beneficial for muscles that are tired, overused, or otherwise sore to relax and soften with various massage techniques. A perfect example of this would be an athlete’s sore muscles after a hard workout or a sports injury.
Reduced Stress, Anxiety and Depression
A massage reduces stress levels in most people. Massage may also help manage or reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression. While no studies prove that massage reduces depression symptoms, some people with depression feel that their symptoms decrease after massage. Massage offers other benefits for your well-being, such as better sleep, increased energy, better concentration and less fatigue.
Increased Circulation
Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals state that massage can increase circulation by assisting oxygen and nutrients to reach tissues and organs.
Pressure Point Therapy
Trigger or pressure point massage is about identifying trigger points for your pain and applying targeted pressure to these trigger points to help release and relieve pain. This massage technique could help with pain caused by muscle overuse, inflammation, injury, posture, electrolyte imbalances, infections, or nerve damage.
The idea behind pressure point massage is that the body often refers pain to another part of the body. For example, a trigger point in the back that’s inflamed can trigger severe pain in the shoulder.
To perform a pressure point massage, the massage therapist applies firm pressure with a finger, elbow, or implement/tool, focusing on specific trigger points (often located far away from the area affected by pain) that are painful when pressed. By releasing the trigger point with firm pressure and combining it with other massage techniques, the original problem can be eased or even healed.
If you have never experienced the healing benefits of a massage, you may very well be missing out. For some, it’s a means of relaxing during a stressful time, for active people and athletes, it’s a means of tending to stressed muscles. Others recognize it as an important treatment for pain relief due to a physical condition. No matter the reason, one fact remains – massage therapy is beneficial for everyone, no matter your age.
